Vehicle Description
1979 Chevrolet K30 Silverado 3+3 Crew Cab Squarebody. Be sure to watch the full explanation video of this truck on the Davis Drives YouTube channel, but here's the quick rundown.
This truck started life as a C20 Crew Cab pickup and was professionally converted onto a K30 4x4 chassis. As most enthusiasts know, two-wheel-drive trucks generally lived easier lives and survived with far less damage and 4 wheel drive abuse.
The truck features an upgraded rear suspension with full replacement leaf springs rather than lift blocks, along with Davis Off-Road power retractable running boards and some of the coldest air conditioning you could ask for. The conversion was done correctly using a Dana 60 front axle, 14-bolt rear axle, 7.4L (454) V8 engine, TH400 (Turbo 400) automatic transmission, and the legendary NP205 dual-range transfer case.
The exterior was refinished in a later-model 1980s-inspired two-tone paint scheme, incorporating the lower body accent, painted roof, 1980s body-side moldings, trim, and matching tailgate trim. Inside, the truck is fitted with dual bench seats finished in black, a retro-style stereo head unit, and approximately 4 inches of suspension lift. It rides on new Mickey Thompson white letter tires mounted to 16-inch alloy wheels.
Additional features include power steering, power brakes, factory air conditioning, a new custom dual exhaust system, and much more. This truck is incredibly impressive both to look at and to drive. A round-headlight 3+3 Crew Cab 4x4 with a big block, air conditioning, and classic Squarebody styling is about as desirable as they come.
The only item we would consider upgrading is the exhaust manifolds. There is a slight manifold leak when the engine is cold, and replacing them with a quality set of headers would be an easy improvement. Since some buyers prefer originality while others favor modifications, we elected to leave it untouched and let the next owner decide.
The body and paint work were completed prior to our ownership and appear to have been done approximately five to six years ago. Overall, this is a very well-built, exceptionally clean Squarebody that is sure to stand out wherever it goes.
